Open Cup & Floating Open Cup Pours
-
This is a fluid art painting technique that uses an open cup that often floats on top of your base color. Paint is layered into the open cup and as more paint is layered in, it begins to seep out from the bottom, under the base color. The different densities of the paints create cell reactions as the base color settles down over the paint. I love this technique for creating amazing cell reactions and 3D effects.
Crimson Hurricane | This floating open cup pour makes me think of Jupiter's red spot. This technique is amazing for creating all of the cells you see here and also given the effect of gold "smoke" or haze over the black and red in many areas.

Celestial Bloom | An early creation of mine and my first attempt at a floating open cup pour. I am so not disappointed with the end results! I love the rose bud shape this technique created along with the amazing cell reactions throughout.

Easter Best | Named after my kids told me many times that this reminds them of an Easter egg. This open cup technique works great for combining colors that you may not expect to work super well together as the colors do not tend to overmix too much and instead just create cells of different colors due to the different densities of paint.
